FKF Cup: Defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz bundled out

By |

SS Assad will face Kariobangi Sharks with AFC Leopards taking on Compel in the final quarterfinal matches set to be played at Dandora Stadium on Sunday.

Kakamega Homeboyz's 1-0 loss to KCB at the Dandora Stadium on Saturday put an end to their hopes of retaining the FKF Cup and becoming the first team since Gor Mahia in 2011 and 2012 to win the competition in two consecutive years.

The Bankers, who proceeded to the semifinals, had Danson Namasaka for the victory, as his 59th minute goal ended up proving the difference between the two sides.

The Bankers last won the competition in 2004, when it was known as the Transparency Cup.

They are now awaiting the outcome of tomorrow's FKF Cup quarterfinal match between SS Assad and Kariobangi Sharks to determine their opponent in the last four. SS Assad and the Kariobangi Sharks will play their match at the Dandora Stadium. The game will kick off at 12 p.m.

Police whitewash Sofapaka

Also making the last four are the high-flying Kenya Police FC, who were formidable with a 4-0 victory in their quarterfinal match against three-time FKF Cup champions Sofapaka. The Dandora Stadium hosted the match, which kicked off at 3 p.m.

Kenya Police FC, who are in search of their first piece of major silverware in Kenyan football, marched to a statement victory with goals from David Okoth (24'), Sammy Onyango (55' and 69'), and Marvin Nabwire (90+2').

Even though the victory came against a beleaguered Sofapaka side that has now gone nine matches without a win, the lawenforcers have firmly established themselves as favourites to win the competition.

In the semifinals, Kenya Police will face either Compel FC or the 10-champion AFC Leopards. The latter two play their quarterfinal match tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Dandora Stadium.
